Generally speaking, the iPhone 11 can be considered as the successor to the iPhone Xr, which is a part of Apple’s existing lineup of smartphones and also its budget-offering (according to Apple), launched last year.
iPhone 11 Design and Display
In terms of design, the iPhone 11 features a 6.1-inch Liquid Retina Display, similar to the one found on the iPhone XR. It shares the same design language with a notch at the front for Face ID and comes with five color options: Purple, White, Green, Yellow, Black, and (Product) RED. The phone is rated IP68 for water resistance up to 2 meters for up to 30 minutes and is protected against accidental liquid spills. Much like previous generation iPhones, it comes with Haptic Touch, deeply integrated across iOS 13, to allow you easier and faster access to different app shortcut functionalities.
iPhone 11 Performance
At its core, the iPhone 11 has Apple’s latest A13 Bionic chip running under the hood, which Apple claims is the ‘fastest CPU in a smartphone’ and ‘fastest GPU in a smartphone’. Apple says the chipset is made for machine learning and comes with faster Neural Engine for real-time photo and video analysis and new Machine Learning Accelerator that allows the CPU to deliver more than 1 trillion operations per second. It also says that the A13 Bionic chip, paired with the all-new iOS 13, allows for all-day battery life. The iPhone 11 comes with Spatial audio that provides an immersive surround sound experience and Dolby Atmos that delivers a more powerful and improved audio experience. In addition, it also comes with an Apple-designed U1 chip that uses Ultra-Wideband technology for spatial awareness, which, in turn, improves AirDrop performance.
iPhone 11 Camera
One of the biggest changes that distinguish the iPhone 11 from the iPhone XR is its camera. Rather than having a single rear camera as on the iPhone XR, the iPhone 11 comes with a dual-camera setup, with a 12MP primary sensor with f/1.8 aperture and a 12MP secondary ultra-wide sensor with f/2.4 aperture. The ultra-wide sensor helps the iPhone capture shots with a wider field of view, something that a lot of smartphones are offering these days. And to make it convenient for users to be able to better utilize this feature, Apple is improving the camera’s UI. Now every time you open up the camera in normal mode, it hints you for a potential ultra-wide shot, so that you can switch modes to capture a wider field of view. In terms of video, the camera allows you to switch between the ultra-wide and regular camera and record 4K resolution with 60fps, slow-mo, time-lapse, and a new extended dynamic range. On the front, the iPhone 11 has a 12MP true depth wide-angle camera, which is a significant upgrade from the 7MP camera on the iPhone XR. The front camera can now record 4K at 60fps along with slow-mo selfie videos, or ‘slofies’ as Apple likes to call them. The dual-camera setup on the iPhone 11 also comes with Audio Zoom that allows you to easily zoom between each camera and match the audio with the video frame for a more dynamic sound.
iPhone 11 Pricing and Availability
The iPhone 11 comes in three storage variants: 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB. It starts at $699 and will be available for pre-order beginning September 13 and in stores starting September 20.
