Google’s GTalk users across the world are facing downtime at the moment. People using the popular messaging client are having variety of issues, ranging from inability to access their contacts to messages not being sent. The issue is present on Gmail chat as well as GTalk app on android. Google’s App status Dashboard confirms that Google Talk is facing issues and currently down. On the app status page for Gtalk, Google has confirmed the same.
Google is working on the issue
A quick glance at twitter search for Gtalk shows the importance of what this GTalk downtime means to people. The fact that it is down for most people across the world makes the situation worse. We will be updating this post as and when we get to know more about the cause & the status of the messaging app. Update: Here comes the first update. No good news though. Please note that the time above is in IST (GMT + 5.5). Update 2: Another update. We still don’t know what caused the outage and when it will be resolved. Update 3: Nothing good yet and it’s already been more than 3 hours since Google aknowledged the issue. Update 4: Partially restored, but not for us. Google isn’t still ready to reveal what caused the outage. Status is now changed to “Service Disruption” from “Service Outage”. Some users are predicting “Unified Google Messenger”! Great thought, but the time Google has taken to fix the issue shows that they weren’t prepared for this outage. Update 5: It’s back up finally. Google isn’t telling the reasons behind the downtime (yet). Be sure to get to know as and when Google discloses it.
