Just in case you are unaware, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 and 652 have been among the most popular chips for the leading chipmaker in 2016. With major upgrades over its predecessor, they succeeded in replacing the reigning Mediatek 6752 to become the prime choice in almost all mid-range smartphones. Starting from the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 to the Sony Xperia X Performance, Snapdragon 650 can be seen inside many smartphones. Apparently, Qualcomm launched Snapdragon 652 as an improved version of their 650, with Cortex A72 cores inside early this year. This time around, Qualcomm is reported to make use of four Cortex A73 cores clocked at 2GHz alongside four other Cortex A53 cores at 1.4GHz. In terms of GPU, the Snapdragon chip will make use of Adreno 515 clocked at 550MHz. That said, it would be interesting to see the improvements in the Cortex A73 cores over the last gen A72 ones.
Apart from the increase in clockspeed and GPU, the Snapdragon 653 will come with support for two 1333MHz LPDDR4 RAM, eMMC 5.1 and USB 3.0. And it goes without saying that the upcoming chip will also come with support for Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0. However, the most interesting improvement over the last generation would be the inclusion of LTE Cat 9 chip on the inside. In the camera department, the brand new chip will come with support for a higher 24MP camera over the 21MP found in the last generation. That aside, there will be support for Dual ISP and WiFi 802.11 ac too. While Qualcomm hasn’t yet confirmed about the existence of this new chip yet, chances of an official launch in coming few weeks can’t be ruled out. It is however always recommended to take these leaks with a pinch of salt.
